Marco Island Shell Club

Shell Show Galleries

The Seashell

Each month during our season, presentations about shells or related nature topics are made by qualified experts, who show visuals and often display some of their "finds". They bring a breadth of knowledge and experience, so a question and answer session follows their program. Refreshments are served and there is an opportunity to interact with the speaker and other attendees. The presentations are free and the public is always welcome.

These seminars begin at 6:00 p.m. and are held on the first Thursday of the month in November, January, February, and March at Disseler Hall at the United Church of Marco, 320 N. Barfield Drive.

Seminars for the 2017-2018 season are as follows:

Thursday, November 9, 2017 --Two of the club's scholarship recipients will report on their research. Victoria Fields, an undergraduate from Florida Gulf Coast University will explain the value of studying the Anurans (frogs) as indicators of landscape change in Southwest Florida. Stephen G. Hesterberg, a doctoral candidate at Florida South University, Tampa, will speak about his research in creating artificial oyster clumps in an effort to enhance the oyster beds of our coastal area. Stephen's academic advisor, Dr. Susan Bell, will also attend.
